Visualizing my own retirement

Visualization has long been touted as a tool that works, many successful people credit this technique as a part of achieving their goals. Neuroscientists have long known that visioning works. There is nothing woo-woo about this. Professional athletes to CEOs have used visioning techniques for years.

What my Retirement Looks like

Today I am 63 years old and celebrating my 15th wedding anniversary. Life is good! I live in Buffalo NY with my husband Gary. We are still living in my home I built in 2010. My parents are still living around the corner from me living their best life. I’m so lucky to still have them in my life.

Jacob is my only child still living in the area. He has a lovely wife and children who I spoil as often as possible. Gary’s son, Alex, is also still in the area. His boys are out of college and visit us a few times a year. Gary’s other 2 sons are living in Rochester. We visit Rachel and Ben often, usually at the cottage. Gary’s Jonathan has settled in Rochester and has 3 kids. We love going to visit to spoil them too. My Jonathon is living in Chicago with his wife and their children. I visit every other month (whether they like it or not) and the kids come to hang out with Gary and me for a week every summer. Jenna lives in North Carolina with her family, and I visit her family on the off months and her kids come visit on the same week in summer as Jonathon’s.

Gary and I are relatively healthy. He is getting up in age, but he doesn’t let anything stop him. Every day, I do yoga in the morning, Pilates mid-day, and walk or bike with Gary in the evening. My back is in good shape. Gary and I go down to St. Croix for a month each year. We also travel either out West or out of the country once a year. I love traveling!! I visit Ann-Nina every other year and go on at least one girls’ weekend each year. When we are at home we hang out with our friends, go on bike rides, read, and visit the awesome places around Buffalo. I go to lunch or drinks with my friends at least once a week.

I am still working with my clients in Abaya Wealth Management LLC. I have a junior financial planner who I am mentoring, with a long-range plan to sell the business when I am 70-72. I love what I am doing and have become a retirement expert that news agencies come to with questions.

I fill my extra time with volunteering. I am still a member of the Erie County Ethics Board. I am also on several boards dedicated to helping women advance in life. I am loving my life. I understand that I am blessed and practice gratitude every morning and evening. I appreciate the day I am in and look forward to the next day with joy.
